Egypt does not belong to the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC). It ranks third in gas production and fifth in oil production in Africa. Egypt contributes significantly to global oil and gas production since it is home to the Suez Canal, the main trade route.

The only local alternative route to transfer crude oil from the Red Sea to the Mediterranean if ships cannot pass via the Suez Canal is the Suez-Mediterranean Pipeline (SUMED).

Egypt is a significant jurisdiction in this area due to the abundance of substantial oil and gas resources it has in the

Gulf of Suez.

Southwest Desert.

Orient Desert.

Peninsula of Sinai.

Sustainergy will give you an overview of regulations on oil and gas Egypt.

Manufacturing inside the country

Production of crude oil: According to the US Energy Information Administration, Egypt produced 600,000 barrels per day of crude oil in 2012. (EIA).

Egyptian gas production in 2011 was roughly 61.26 billion cubic meters (CIA World Factbook). Following British Petroleum’s (BP) most recent gas find in Egypt’s East Nile Delta, the country’s natural gas reserves are projected to rise by about 1.2 trillion cubic feet (TCF) in 2013. Additionally, the nation’s gas reserves are currently 77.2 TCF, up from estimations of 58.5 TCF in 2010, and rank third in Africa after those of Nigeria and Algeria (EIA). The oil and gas industry services in Egypt have seen massive growth.

The export-import sector

Importing oil: No oil importation activities are carried out by the Ministry of Petroleum, according to a report by the Ministry of Planning. It is opposed to the Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation (EGPC), which claims that for the past two years, Egypt has been importing oil derivatives from Saudi Arabia and the gulf nations (such as Benzene, Mazot, and Solar) to suit domestic needs. However, there are currently no public reports or statistics showing these imports magnitude.

Importation of gas: Currently, Egypt does not import any gas, although it is thought that the relevant authorities wanted to do so in 2014. There are currently no formal records that reflect this.

According to the Energy Intelligence Group, Suez is the main oil grade in Egypt. The Gulf of Suez Petroleum Co. (Gupco), a partnership between BP and EGPC, operates diminishing offshore fields in the Gulf of Suez from which the Suez Blend is derived.

Belay. The Belayim Blend is derived from old oil reserves in the Gulf of Suez, run by the Belayim Petroleum Co. (Petrobel), a partnership between Eni and EGPC.

The Western Desert Blend comes from oil sources in the Western Desert and is a light, somewhat sweet-grade crude with a high wax concentration. Small discoveries and the deployment of EOR techniques on fields in the Western Desert region have increased output in recent years. Khalda Petroleum Co., a partnership between Apache and EGPC, is the area’s top producer. The Western Desert Blend is also fueled by assets held by the joint ventures Agiba (between Eni and EGPC) and Bapetco (between Shell and EGPC).

Bottom line

Sustainergy creates novel solutions for complex technical systems for the oil and gas Egypt. They primarily support onshore and offshore plants’ intermediate and downstream hydrocarbon production.
